Avery Sutton (Owner/Head Trainer)

Avery Sutton has grown up in the Hartford County area in the Hunter/Jumper world for most of her life. She has spent the majority of her time competing every weekend with her own horse “Cas Canto”, qualifying for state, regional, and national level finals. Winning multiple state and regional year-end awards and placing 11th in the National M&S Sore No More Medal in 2016.

Avery quickly fell in love with the sport and worked her way up from being an academy lesson student, to head horse show groom to assistant barn manager & assistant travel horse show manager to professional rider & trainer. She has taken regular lessons and clinics with some of the best in the country including Kevin Babbington, Don Stewart, Patti Harnois, Mike Rosser, and many others, that have helped her develop a solid foundation in flat work and helped to hone in on her natural feel with horses. She enjoys teaching beginner lessons all the way through the advanced riders competing in the 3’-3’6 finals.

Currently, Avery is the Barn manager and Professional Rider at Cozy Fields Farm in Ellington, CT with Heather Hayes.  Avery joined the Cozy Fields Farm Team as a Professional Rider in the fall of 2020. Since then she has been an integral member of the team not only riding and teaching lessons but organizing events, assisting with the care and maintenance of each horse, scheduling horse shows, and getting riders & horses prepped from start to finish for the non-horse show &horse show goals. She has developed a very keen eye for the finer details in equine body language and position and focuses on how we can best communicate with horses to build partnerships in and out of the saddle. Avery enjoys working with both green & seasoned horses and riders as well as those lacking a bit of confidence that need to be nurtured and developed to find their unlimited potential!

In 2023 Avery Graduated from The University of Vermont with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Animal Science and a minor in Zoology. She has always had a passion for Veterinary Medicine and has worked with several practices as a Veterinary Technician including Vermont large Animal Clinic as an ICU Tech as well as HBEquine Services in CT.

Avery was also an assistant IEA coach at the Livery Horse Farm in Hinesburg, VT during college. She began with Kim Johansen in 2022 helping her rehab horses from kissing spine surgery and assisting with lessons. She was then asked to take a more regular role twice a week helping with the training of horses and the students on the IEA team prep for their travel shows.
